We left early in the morning for Mumbai. The drive should take about 2 hours but if you get caught in traffic it could take what seems like forever. This is exactly what happened once we got into Mumbai. We hit the noon rush hour and I think it took us 3 hours to go about one (1) mile. The number of people, cars, motorcycles, etc was unbelievable. I think I saw more people in this one day than I have in my entire life. The Mumbai Pune Expressway is India's first six-lane concrete, high-speed, tolled expressway. It spans a distance of 93 km (58 miles) connecting Mumbai and the city of Pune. It became fully operational in April 2002. The drive takes you through the Sahyadri mountain ranges. We stopped once along the way for a break. The driver needed to have his tea and something to eat. About Mumbai Mumbai, formerly Bombay, is the capital of the Indian state of Maharashtra. Mumbai ranks among the most populous cities in the world, with population of approximately 18 million. Along with with the neighboring urban areas it is one of the largest urban regions of the world. Mumbai lies on the west coast of India. |
