India - October 2009
Introduction

How this all came about ...

Rohinee & AnnQuite some time ago, I was out for dinner with my friends Rohinee and Patty at Dolittle's. Rohinee mentioned she was going to India for a family visit. So I hopped on the quest to go to India. About seven years later, I found myself applying for a visa and planning for an adventure. The adventure was much more than I ever anticipated.

Got to Love TennisNow the story wouldn't be complete without mentioning tennis. Long before the dinner conversation, Rohinee and I met via our passion for tennis. Now, the important question to ask is who's the better tennis player but that answer will depend on which of us you ask. We banter back and forth about it and over time we've formed a great friendship and rivalry.

Map of IndiaTravel Plan

My travel plan was to spend the first few days with Rohinee and her mother in the city of Pune. Nalinee, Rohinee's sister, also lives in Pune. With all the "ee"s at the end of the names, I think I should spell my name Annee.

On Friday, Oct. 8, I would fly to Delhi to start my seven-day personal tour of northern India. The tour included the cities of Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur. The three cities make up the tour circuit called the "Golden Triangle".

After the tour, I would fly back to Pune and spend the rest of the time with Rohinee.

Even though I would have a personal guide for my tour, I was apprehensive about being by myself. This was going to be the bravest thing I have ever done. I'm female, by myself, don't speak the language, and in a foreign country that I've never visited before; need I say more?
